Sydney Carton- alcoholic lawyer who is deeply in love with Lucie Manette; Darnay's look-alike and takes his place in line for execution out of love for Lucie.
Lucie Manette- daughter of Dr. Manette, marries Charles Darnay, cares deeply for his father.
Dr. Manette- was in prison at the Bastille for many years, tried to get Darnay (his son-in-law) out of jail
Charles Darnay- French noble who is disgusted with his family's hatred towards peasants; marries Lucie Manette, sentenced to jail to die for his ancestry's sins and crimes.
Monsieur Defarge- revolutionary leader, owns a wine shop
Madame Defarge- wife of Monsieur Defarge; wanted to sentence Lucie Manette to jail; murdered by Miss Pross
Miss Pross- dedicated to Lucie and has taken care of her since Lucie's mother passed away; defended Lucie from Madame Defarge by killing her; becomes deaf from the gunshot that killed Madame Defarge
Javis Lorry- friend of Dr. Manette, owns a bank
Mr. Cruncher- messanger for Mr. Lorry; at night, he works as a gravedigger
John Barsad/ Solomon Pross- Miss Pross' long lost brother, spy for both countries (France and England)
Seamstress- the only person who realized that Carton had replaced Darnay at the guillotine; she, also, was waiting in line to be executed
